Volleyball Struggles in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – The Heidelberg University women's volleyball team returned home from the Charlie Wrublewski Memorial Tournament empty-handed, as they dropped three matches over the weekend.

On Friday, the Student Princes fell in straight sets to DePauw, 25-14 25-18 25-23. Amber Welfle led Heidelberg (2-4) with 12 kills in 37 attacks. Stephanie Romie had 14 assists and Jubilee Haase notched 13 digs. DePauw had three players with 10-plus kills.

On Saturday, host Mt. St. Joseph won in straight sets, 25-15 25-14 25-18. Welfle had eight kills to lead the team. Head coach Jason Miller used 16 players in the loss.

Later, Heidelberg lost to Thomas More in five sets, 20-25 25-22 19-25 25-21 15-5. Alexa Frank served up 39 assists. Welfle had 21 kills and Haase had 26 digs.

The Student Princes will look to reverse their four-game losing skid on Tuesday when they host Defiance. The 7 P.M. game will be shown live on WHEI TV-10 and the Berg Athletics Network at www.heidelberg.edu/ban.
